The following students and recent graduates are able to take advantage of our UoS Internships:
- Undergraduates on any course and year group
- Masters students
- PhD students (you must seek confirmation from your PhD supervisor that you can be made available to complete an internship)
- Recent graduates and alumni (must have graduated less than 12 months prior to internship start date)
- International students (subject to visa restrictions*)
- Turing Scheme and students on a year abroad (provided you have returned to the UK for the internship)
- All students studying at the University of Southampton can complete one UoS Internship per academic year. Please see the ‘How does it work?’ section for more details
* Student Visa, we would recommend that you visit the Visa Team's Working in the UK page and observe the working restrictions as outlined by your Visa.
Key facts about the UoS Internships programme:
- Internships can be completed during Easter and summer breaks, or during term-time
- Internships may take place in-person, virtually, or hybrid
- Working hours for full-time internships are 35 hours per week
- Opportunities are available within all sectors and organisations of various sizes
- UoS Internship job roles are advertised on MyCareer throughout the academic year
- You can apply for many UoS Internships and complete one internship per academic year
All students studying at the University of Southampton can complete one UoS Internship per academic year. They are a great first step into work. After finishing your UoS internship, there are a wide range of other opportunities to build on your experience, from

Forage. You can also search for external work experience directly with employers.
Work experience can increase your chances of landing a graduate job and we can help you get started on that journey.

Once you have successfully secured an internship position, the Work Experience Team will be in contact to ensure you are prepared for your internship and have completed all necessary documents relevant to the role.
This includes but is not limited to:
- Completing right to work checks and payroll documents (where necessary)
- Completing an online internship agreement form when provided
- Filling in monthly timesheets and submitting them on time (where necessary)
- Completing online feedback detailing your experience of your internship once it has concluded
You have access to different types of support before and during your UoS Internship:

- You can book an Ask the Adviser appointment to receive bespoke one-to-one career advice.
- You will be supported during your internship with a check-in from the Work Experience Team after you start.
