Module overview

Engineering projects succeed not only through technical excellence, but also through effective leadership, teamwork and sound decision-making. This module introduces the management, commercial and legal knowledge needed to deliver successful engineering projects within modern organisations. You will explore how engineers manage projects, people, resources and risk while considering the ethical, environmental and financial factors that influence engineering decisions. Topics include project management, project risk management, leadership, entrepreneurship, accounting, marketing, human resource management and engineering law, providing insight into the wider professional responsibilities of engineers. Working in teams and using realistic case studies, you will develop the communication, leadership and decision-making skills needed to manage engineering projects effectively. Guest speakers from industry will share practical experience of project delivery, while links with FEEG2001 Systems Design and Computing provides opportunities to apply and assess project management, project risk management, leadership and teamwork skills within challenging group design projects. This integrated approach supports the development of effective management and collaborative working skills in the context of designing and delivering complex engineering projects, reflecting the professional practices expected of graduate engineers.
