About

Dr Haris Moazam Sheikh is a Lecturer in Aeronautics at the University of Southampton and an expert in data-efficient computational design and optimization for complex engineering systems. His research addresses a fundamental challenge: how to discover high-performing designs when simulations and experiments are expensive, data are limited, and design spaces are complex.

He develops intelligent computational frameworks that integrate optimization, machine learning, uncertainty-aware modelling, and information from multiple levels of fidelity, with particular expertise in Bayesian optimization. His work seeks to make engineering design more efficient by learning strategically from limited data and directing computational or experimental resources towards the most valuable design decisions.

His research has applications in aerodynamic and hydrodynamic design, turbulent drag reduction, optimized surface textures, and architected metamaterials. A central focus is the development of methods that connect computational intelligence with engineering physics, accelerating the discovery of shapes, surfaces, and structures with targeted performance.

Dr Sheikh received his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley. He is a Fulbright Scholar and a recipient of the Chang-Lin Tien Fellowship. His publications and latest research outputs are available on his Google Scholar profile.
