Dr Mohamed Amer

Mohamed Amer has teaching and research experience in mechanical and materials engineering, having served as a Teaching Assistant at Coventry University and previously as an Assistant Lecturer at Helwan University. He has led tutorials, supervised laboratory sessions, and supported practical coursework across modules, including:

Mohamed Amer is an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA), reflecting his commitment to providing inclusive, high-quality learning experiences.

Mohamed Amer holds a PhD in Materials Science from Coventry University, with a strong track record in both experimental characterisation and finite element modelling of advanced materials. His research comprises advanced characterisation techniques (SEM, EBSD, nanoindentation, in-situ mechanical testing), image processing techniques combined with finite element simulations, generating new insights into coating durability and failure mechanisms for aerospace and energy applications.

He holds MSc and BSc degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Helwan University, where his MSc focused on ductile damage prediction in cold-formed aluminium alloys, complementing his expertise in lightweight materials and formability. Across his career, Mohamed has built strong skills in material testing and characterisation, sheet metal forming, and FE modelling.

Mohamed has shared his research through peer-reviewed journals and international conferences, earning awards such as the ITSC2024 Best Paper Award and securing grants from the Henry Royce Institute. He is also an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
