About the Recirculating water tunnel
The recirculating water tunnel is an extensively equipped water flume used for fundamental research and industrial Research and Development (R&D). The tunnel has supported a wide range of experimental studies, including pitching aerofoils, bluff-body flows, urban aerodynamics and passive scalar mixing, with applications spanning aerospace, marine and environmental research.
The tunnel is also available for hire by commercial companies in support of their Research and Development (R&D) work. We have access to some of the world leaders in experimental fluid dynamics and can offer varying levels of support.
The tunnel is perfect for optical techniques where seeding particles can be tracked by a variety of laser and camera techniques to visualise and quantify flow structures in three dimensions.
The test section is 1.2 metres (m) wide by 0.8 m deep and can operate at up to 1 metre per second (m/s).
