Project overview

There is much conjecture about the way people socialise and form social relationships at a time when alcohol consumption is in decline and people are more engaged with their smartphones and other digital devices. Are people still going for a drink? And if so, what are they drinking, where are they drinking and who are they drinking with? I want to understand how people are forming connections, maintaining connections and how diverse these connections are. This study will explore what it means to live in a diverse urban community and the lived reality of Marseille's residents within contested and subjective spaces.

As an ethnographic study, this project will include a variety of methods inclusive of participant observation, interviews, mapping, audio-visual recordings, art, ephemera and photography.
