Project overview
The project deals with the accurate simulation of turbulent flows with heat transfer through and over porous and rough media. To this end, direct numerical simulations of flow over beds of packaged spheres as well as open-cell foam porous media will be conducted. The computations will use our inhouse, lattice Boltzmann solver AMROC-LBM with double distribution approach coupling the thermal field under a Boussinesq assumption to the lattice Boltzmann method. Within the corresponding EPSRC grant the DNS computations will be compared to high-quality experiments and large eddy simulations from a conventional finite volume solver.
