Intrinsic Inhomogenetics and Anisotrophy in the Cuprate Superconducting State

Project overview

Our recent findings have opened up novel methods to investigate the pairing state in cuprate superconductors and its effect on various vortex phases. The quality of YBCO crystals combined with our annealing procedures, have now reached a level were the pinning landscape is controllable to such an extent that we can investigate, in a direct fashion, these intrinsic properties of the superconducting state. We propose a programme of research which aims to explore these topics. In particular we plan to use a combination of magnetic and magnetotransport measurements, some with high angular resolution, to investigate detwinned and untwinned YBCO single crystals.
