About

I am a professor of knowledge exchange and enterprise (digital education). My work spans educational leadership, digital transformation, online learning, learning design, enterprise, research and teaching. I am driven by helping universities to harness technology to improve learning, widen access and prepare students for an AI-enabled future.

I am an Associate Director of the Web Science Institute and work with AI@Southampton. I lead the University's approach to Generative AI in teaching, learning and assessment, am the founding chair of the University Digital Education Advisory Group (reporting to the University's Education and Student Experience Committee), and oversee strategic partnerships in online education, including the UoS relationship with FutureLearn and the development of online and lifelong learning/CPD opportunities. I am the CPD lead for the School of Humanities.

Beyond Southampton, I serve as Vice-President of the European Association for Computer Assisted Language Learning (EUROCALL) and sit on the Editorial Boards of ReCALL journal (CUP) and Technology in Language Teaching and Learning (Castledown). My research interests include digital education, open education, AI in education and technology-enhanced language learning.

I am an award-winning educator, learning designer, researcher and leader, with extensive international experience gained through living and working in Japan, China, Russia and the United States.
