Our Co-directors

Joanna Sofaer

Stephanie’s research brings together the methods and materials of two disciplines: literature and law.  Her work comparing how the ocean is construed by the law and how it is constructed through storytelling has convinced Stephanie of the importance of attending to cultures of representation in any research endeavour.  At the same time, understanding the significance of the material ocean to the formation of knowledge—from ideas about beauty to our understanding of ecosystems—has heightened her commitment sharing ideas across disciplines, communities, and institutions, and across local, regional and international contexts.

Lexi Webster

Lexi's research focuses on the cultural-political impact of technologies, broadly construed. Lexi has extensive experience in interdisciplinary research leadership, holding multiple editorial appointments across various journals and book series, having led significant multi-partner collaborative projects, and developing partnerships with organisations in the UK, Europe and North America. She currently serves as Deputy Chair of Research England’s EDI Expert Advisory Group and as Co-Chair for Indigo Gender Service, an NHS-commissioned service providing adult gender care in the UK’s Greater Manchester region.
