Lane swimming sessions

Swimming is one of the best all-round activities for health and fitness, regardless of your age or ability. It has been proven to contribute to healthy heart, lungs and muscular strength. 

Our swimming pool

Located in the Jubilee Sport and Recreation Centre, our 25-metre pool has 6 lanes and a depth that ranges from 1 to 2 metres.

Swimming sessions are available every day of the week. Each session includes lanes for slow, medium and fast swimmers. 

Lane swimming is available to: 

  • student members
  • staff members
  • public members
  • pay as you go users

When you can swim

You can use the pool whenever there's a lane swimming or general swimming session. There's no need to book.

The cost of using the swimming pool depends on whether you hold a valid Southampton Sport membership. 

Pay as you go users can purchase their session at the Jubilee Sport and Recreation Centre reception at any time.

Conditions for using the pool

All swimmers must comply with the age and supervision requirements below.

  • To participate in a lane swimming session, swimmers must be able to swim 25 metres unaided.
  • Lane swimming sessions are primarily for swimmers aged 16 and over. However, children under 16 who meet the 25 metre requirement may be permitted to use the lane swimming sessions at the lifeguard's discretion, subject to their ability, the suitability of the session, and pool capacity.
  • Children aged 0 to 3 years must be accompanied in the pool by an adult, with a ratio of 1 child to 1 adult.
  • Children aged 4 to 7 years must be accompanied in the pool by an adult, with a ratio of 2 children to 1 adult.
  • Children aged 8 to 15 years must be able to swim 25 metres unaided, a swim test may be required. A supervising adult (aged 18 or over) must remain in the pool hall viewing area at all times. Weak or non-swimmers must be supervised in the water by a competent adult.

The decision of the lifeguard is final regarding admission to lane swimming sessions and the safe use of any lane.

All users must have an account created at the facility on their first visit. A birth certificate must be provided for age verification purposes. Entry will not be permitted until age verification has been completed and photo captured by Southampton Sport.
