Advanced Arid Environments Field Course (Namibia)
This advanced field course module is delivered as a residential fieldcourse to Namibia (primarily based at the Gobabeb Namib Research Institute). It is designed for students interested in all aspects of physical geography and environmental change, but will focus on a specific topic relevant to arid environments such as ephemeral river dynamics, plant and animal adaptations, dune processes, dust emission, coastal landscapes, stony deserts, water resources and drought, environment-human interactions, etc.
Though a number of local talks and walks through different arid environments, students will be exposed to different topics and processes relevant to Namibia and arid lands in general. Along with visits to the environment around Windhoek and the Skeleton Coast around Swakopmund, the trip will mainly be based at a remote arid research institute where students will undertake projects in small groups.
This module will, through a combination of tutor-led discussion and group project work in the field, cover topics that are central to understanding complex arid environment issues. -

Advanced Astronautics
Advanced Astronautics picks up where year 2 Astronautics left off.
In this module you will further study Orbital Mechanics, while learning about relevant requirements, norms, standards and best practices. You will apply this knowledge to sustainable space mission design and discuss ethical, societal, and environmental impacts.
You will design suitable power subsystems, including detailed solar power system sizing and thermal modelling of spacecraft at systems level. You will learn to manage risks by establishing safe operational margins during sub-system design. -
