Southampton Space Institute About us Our People Our facilities Southampton Space Institute Our facilities The Southampton Space Institute brings together a wide-range of facilities and capabilities. Nanofabrication cleanrooms The Southampton Nanofabrication Centre houses a fully featured suite of semiconductor processing tools up to 200 millimetre wafer scale. Nanofabrication cleanrooms facilities Deep-ultraviolet projection lithography facility Our deep-ultraviolet scanner is a unique capability within UK academic research. Deep-ultraviolet projection lithography facility Electron beam lithography facility Our electron beam lithography facility creates new opportunities for fine-geometry capability in novel device fabrication. Electron beam lithography facility Hybrid materials and devices facility We specialise in processing and characterisation of thin film materials from solution, such as those employed in flexible or wearable optoelectronic devices and battery research. Hybrid materials and devices facility National Electron Diffraction facility The electron diffraction facility, part of the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, enables single-crystal structure analysis of crystallites too small for single-crystal X-ray diffraction experiments. National Electron Diffraction facility Geospatial computing facility The geospatial computing facility is a specialised IT facility for Geospatial data used for teaching, research and enterprise in Geography and Environmental Science. Geospatial computing facility High energy laboratory The high energy laboratory provides additional off-campus space to allow testing and operation of high voltage and power energy storage and production systems. It is mainly used for testing renewable energy generation systems and energy storage systems. High energy laboratory Iridis research computing facility Iridis, the University’s high performance computing system, has dramatically increased computational performance and reach. Iridis is currently in its fifth generation and remains one of the largest computational faculties in the UK. Iridis research computing facility Material innovation laboratory The material innovation laboratory facility offers a range of capabilities ranging from synthesis and characterisation to full research projects focusing on high-throughput methodology. Material innovation laboratory Printed electronics and materials laboratory This research laboratory produces novel thick-film electronic sensors, actuators, circuits and systems. Printed electronics and materials laboratory Testing and structures research laboratory The testing and structures research laboratory is a regional and national centre for experimental mechanics research.
