Having successfully completed this module you will be able to:
- Identify and evaluate the impact of public health programmes on cardiac disease.
- Describe the epidemiological aspects of cardiovascular disease.
- Appraise the psychosocial aspects of disease on patients, carers and families.
Syllabus
Indicative Content
- National and international public health aspects of infectious and non-infectious diseases
- Principles of epidemiology and basis of health promotion
- Typical screening programmes in healthcare science - purpose, design and outcomes
- Use of epidemiological data to design and deliver health services
- Impact of public health on cardiac, pulmonary and vascular pathologies
- Psychological and sociological aspects of living with heart disease
You will also consider the impact of lifestyle on health, risk factors for cardiovascular disease and the concept of risk assessment.
Learning and Teaching
Teaching and learning methods
Students will learn by exploring material in lectures, in conjunction with directed learning. Students will be encouraged to manage their time and the development of their learning by utilising multimedia resources, and the library, and by self-directed development of the study skills necessary to access these resources.
