Engage and Assessing in Homelessness

Module overview

Often, the only thing that people experiencing homelessness have in common is that they lack housing. Those who work in homelessness need to have excellent interpersonal skills to effectively engage with such a diverse population with complex needs. Basic counselling skills are the foundation of effective interpersonal skills that allow us to engage with people and build strong therapeutic relationships.

Teaching and learning methods

Teaching and learning methods include lectures and workshops, which incorporate demonstrations, role-play, experiential learning and small group work. In addition, private study and assigned reading forms an important source of knowledge and understanding. We use a range of teaching and learning methods, and recognise that students have different preferred learning styles.
