Module overview
The Population and Planetary Health (PPH) module brings together key concepts within the fields of public health, global health and planetary health, integrating these in a manner that is relevant to future practice as a junior doctor. This knowledge will become increasingly important for future doctors in a rapidly changing world. This module also allows students choice of a topic of interest to study in greater depth.
Students can expect to build on a foundation in PPH developed in the early years and form an appreciation of contemporary issues in the three fields within PPH. The World Health Organisation recognises how crucial it is for healthcare systems to be equipped to deal with a wide range of issues as they arise. The scope of the PPH module will help students appreciate health-related challenges faced by populations both in the UK and globally.
Students will learn about the complex factors influencing patients’ health status. Students will follow a curriculum that is responsive to important events and situations that affect population health, such as pandemics or armed conflict. This learning will be important for future doctors who will be caring for patients from diverse backgrounds in the UK, as well as for those who may aspire to work overseas at some point in their careers.
