Dr Golding leads the Geography PGCE course at Southampton.
He welcomes enquiries from individuals wishing to undertake doctoral research in the fields of geography education, education for environmental sustainability, education in Vietnam and those interested in the use of innovative research methods in education.
Cyrus is a Senior Teaching Fellow at the University of Southampton and leads the Geography PGCE course.
He was previously a Tutor, Lecturer and Interim Course Director for the inaugural Geography PGCE course at King’s College London from 2020 – 2025. There he co-founded Routes, the Journal for Student Geographers, with Professor Lizzie Ruston. Routes is the first international, peer-reviewed journal that allows student geographers to publish their work and experience a high-quality, supportive peer review process.
Cyrus’ research develops the field of Geographies of Education by applying concepts from human and cultural geography to explore issues of social justice in education, particularly the lived realities of teachers and the infrastructures which affect teachers’ everyday lives, their wellbeing and health.
Cyrus has deep expertise of school systems in Vietnam and international education in Asia.
He is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society (FRGS), a lifetime member of Salzburg Global for Nature-based education and a Member of the Geography Education Research Collective (GEReCO).
Dr Golding holds a BA (first class), MSc and DPhil from the University of Oxford, and a PGCE from the University of Cambridge. In recognition of his contribution to education, he was awarded the 2024 Ordnance Survey Award by the Royal Geographical Society.
