About

Bilal is a PhD researcher in Control Systems Engineering in the Future Mobility Lab at the University of Southampton, led by Dr Anil Madhusudhanan. His research focuses on energy-efficient motion control for connected and autonomous vehicles, with particular emphasis on signalised intersection crossing using Vehicle-to-Infrastructure communication. His work combines data-driven modelling, model-based control, and real-world validation to develop methods that can be assessed systematically in simulation and on instrumented vehicles.

His research spans EV energy-consumption modelling using system identification and machine learning, trajectory optimisation for signal crossing, and Model Predictive Control for closed-loop longitudinal control. A central part of his work is the development of reusable experimental workflows, including Vehicle-in-the-Loop evaluation to link simulation results with real-world testing.
