Global Entrepreneurship
This module has been developed to recognise the increasing importance of, and to support, international entrepreneurship. International entrepreneurship is an established sub-domain of the entrepreneurship field. There is a growing recognition of the importance of contextual factors for entrepreneurship. Differences amongst national and cultural contexts create specific types of entrepreneurial opportunities and, because such opportunities can be created in any country, this module is pertinent for those who wish to develop entrepreneurial careers in any country across the globe.
Specifically, it examines the international aspects of entrepreneurial activity, and how firms are embedded within a rapidly changing and increasingly competitive global socioeconomic and political context. Venture capital firms, corporate venture funds and business angels have increased their financing in entrepreneurial start-ups outside of their countries of origin, while many entrepreneurial firms are now ‘born global’ in order to exploit international opportunities. This module provides an overview of global entrepreneurship, paying particular attention to the USA, Western Europe, and emerging economies in Eastern Europe South America, Africa, India, China and other Far-Eastern Asian countries, by examining context specific entrepreneurial strategies, processes and operations, which entrepreneurs are engaged in as they internationalise their entrepreneurial activities. This module recognises that new opportunities, resources, and innovations can emerge from anywhere, anytime. -
