Professor Savita Rangarajan is an internationally renowned Haematologist with over two decades of experience at the consultant level, specialising in coagulation medicine and haemophilia. She is currently serving as Professor of Clinical Haematology at the University of Southampton.
Trained in India at Mumbai University, where she earned her MBBS and MD, Savita furthered her medical education and clinical training in the United Kingdom. She holds fellowships from both the Royal College of Physicians and the Royal College of Pathologists and is listed on the UK’s Specialist Register as a Haematologist.
Her clinical career has spanned major UK institutions including Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital and Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, where she developed and led comprehensive haemostasis and thrombosis services. She played a pivotal role in establishing the Southern Haemophilia Network and integrating cutting-edge clinical trials platforms across multiple NHS trusts.
Savita has been instrumental in advancing gene and cell therapy for bleeding disorders, leading major international Phase III clinical trials and contributing to landmark publications in journals such as The New England Journal of Medicine, Nature Medicine, and The Lancet. She has secured over £1 million in investigator-initiated research grants and is actively engaged in translational research, particularly in thrombosis and haemophilia care.
In addition to her work in the UK, she is a Consultant to Reliance Life Sciences in India and leads their Gene and Cell Therapy initiatives. She has also established a Clinical Trials and Research Unit at KJ Somaiya Super Speciality Hospital in Mumbai, reflecting her commitment to global health and cross-border collaboration.
Savita is co-founder of the Southern Interdisciplinary Global Health Network (SigHN) and founder of the Scientific Academic Coagulation Consortium (SACC), both of which foster collaborative international research. She is a member of numerous professional societies, including the UK Haemophilia Doctors Organisation, American Society of Hematology, International Society of Thrombosis and Haemostasis, and the American Society of Gene & Cell Therapy.
