About

Dr Gaby Pfeifer’s work focuses on psychophysiological changes across the lifespan, examining how interoceptive processes, personality traits, and individual differences shape the trajectory of healthy ageing. She investigates how mind–body interactions influence emotional experience, cognition, and wellbeing, with a particular emphasis on how these processes evolve with age. As a Chartered Psychologist and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, she brings expertise in cognitive neuroscience and biological psychology to this work.

Gaby uses a combination of subjective, behavioural, and physiological methods to study both clinical and non‑clinical populations, focusing on emotional processing and the factors that influence adaptation across adulthood. Her research aims to clarify how individuals adjust to major health‑related and life‑changing circumstances, and how these adaptations support mental and physical health throughout the ageing process.

Gaby leads the Year 2 Developmental Psychology module and supervises students at various levels, including Bachelor's, Master's, PhD candidates, and doctoral students in the DClinPsych and DEdPsych training programmes.

As Director of Employability for Psychology, Gaby regularly speaks at public engagement events on career planning across the lifespan and advises students on work-based learning opportunities, internships, and placement year options.
