This online course for local authority officers, councillors, and other stakeholders provides an overview of how the Renters’ Rights Act 2025 impacts on local authority service delivery and how councils can implement the Act to deliver better outcomes for tenants.
Course overview
The People, Property, Community (PPC) research centre, Southampton Law School, is recognised as one of the leading institutions in the field of housing law and its members have considerable academic and professional experience in the field.
This online programme aims to provide you with an overview of how the Renters’ Rights Act 2025 impacts on local authorities. It addresses the fundamental questions affecting local authority officers today:
- What is the current state of the private rented sector in England?
- What are the policy objectives and key provisions of the Renters’ Rights Act 2025?
- What new duties, powers and responsibilities does the Act place on councils?
- How can the Act be integrated into existing private sector housing, environmental health, and housing need and homelessness services?
- How should councils prioritise resources and manage risk to achieve the greatest impact?
- What are the key challenges, risks and legal considerations in local implementation, and how can they be managed?
- How can data, intelligence and enforcement be used to demonstrate effective delivery and improved tenant outcomes?
Course format
This one-day course will be delivered online by Professor Helen Carr, part-time judge with the First Tier Tribunal (Property) Chamber (London) and Dr Mark Jordan.
Certificate
After completing the course please contact our online learning team who will be able to issue you with an e-certificate of completion on evidence that you have successfully completed the course which you have registered for.
Professional accreditation bodies may impose requirements over and above those of the School of Law.
